Rehabilitation in the Context of HIV: An Interprofessional Course for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists
Facilitated by clinicians and people living with HIV, this one day workshop focuses on research and evidence-based practice related to the care, treatment and support of people living with HIV. CWGHR members who register for this course will automatically be registered for the HIV and Rehabilitation Forum.

HIV across the Lifespan: Roles and Opportunities for Rehabilitation: A Panel
The goal of this session is to explore the challenges faced living with HIV across the lifespan and the roles and opportunities for rehabilitation in addressing these challenges. This session will include a panel of people living with HIV, representatives from AIDS service organizations, clinicians, and researchers. Some of the key areas that will be addressed include: cardiovascular risk factors, bone and joint disorders, cognitive impairments, mental health, and employment and income support issues faced among individuals aging across the lifespan. The panel will be followed by a response by our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Stephen Karpiak who will summarize on the achievements and challenges in the field of HIV across the lifespan and next steps for further building on this important area of research, practice and service delivery.

HIV and Mental Health: A Workshop
This workshop will provide valuable tools for front-line health and social service professionals who meet directly with HIV+ clients and feel that depression is limiting the client’s quality of life. Many professionals feel intimidated and powerless when trying to assist an HIV+ client who is weighted down with symptoms of depression. This often leaves both the worker and the client feeling helpless and hopeless. This dynamic and interactive workshop will provide effective tools for the assessment of mild, moderate and severe depressive symptoms, as well as teach evidence-based techniques to positively impact on the client’s mental state, no matter how short the interaction may be with the client. The workshop will be very interactive, including role-playing, small group work at tables, as well as select case studies. There will time for questions and answers.

Simultaneous French/English translation will be provided for all events.
Sign interpretation will be made available on an as-needed basis.

Subsidies
CWGHR is able to provide a limited number of subsidies to assist some members with the costs of attending the Forum and AGM. Subsidies will be awarded by a committee of CWGHR Staff and Board of Directors. Although funds are limited, we will do our best to provide support to as many members as possible.
